There are several Origin stories for this most popular tequila drink. One of the earliest was that it was invented by in 1938 by Carlos "Danny" Herrera at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria which stood halfway between Tijuana and Rosarito. The story goes that he invented the drink for Ziegfeld dancer Marjory King because she was allergic to many spirits but not Tequila. Another competing story was that it was invented in October of 1841 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco at Hussong's Cantina in Ensanada. That story says that one day a woman named Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German ambassador visited the cantina one day while Orozco was doing a little R&D and he offered her the cocktail while experimenting. She loved the cocktail so much so he named it after her and the cocktail was born. Whatever the lineage we know that the Margarita is probably a variation on a Daisy (see our Daisy Episode) as The word Margarita means Daisy in Spanish. That being said it is one of the most iconic of Tequila drinks and everyone should know how to make a proper one! Hope you guys enjoy the video! **Update** I misspoke about the Tommy's Margarita, it omits the Curacao and not the Agave. If you'd like to try the Tommy's Margarita the specs are below. Here's links to the tools I use in the episode: Shaking Tins: Graduated Jigger: and if you want to check out our storefront on Amazon here's a link: theeducatedbarfly The Specs: 2oz or 60ml Blanco Tequila 1oz or 30ml Fresh Lime Juice .5oz or 15ml Dry Curacao .5oz or 15ml Light Agave Lime Wheel Garnish Tommy's Margarita Specs: 2oz or 60ml Reposado Tequila 1oz or 30ml Fresh Lime Juice .5oz or 15ml Agave Nectar (or syrup if you prefer it thinner) Lime Wedge Garnish If you liked this video, click below to subscribe:
